Every fisherman has their fishing stories. Doc's specialty is removing fishhooks from people so naturally everyone shares their story with Doc. Their is no guarantee these tales are true. However, they all were told with great enthusiasm.
During a panfishing contest in the south a contestant hooked himself in the chin with a fishhook. The tournament was three days long, and this was a dedicated fisherman. So he cut the eye off the hook, and left the rest of the hook in his chin for the next four days until he returned home and had his doctor remove it.
A very experienced fisherman was in a tournament and was competing for the lead. The second day he unexpectedly returned to the weigh-in dock early. At the dock he refused to get out of the boat, and demanded to be driven to the nearest hospital while still riding in his trailered boat. During this time he refused to remove the jacket covering his lap or to discuss the situation with anyone.
Doc's favorite fishing tale he learned at the International Fly Tackle Dealers Show. A young man from Mexico told his horror story while Marlin fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. While working as a guide on a charter fishing boat a tourist hooked a large Marlin. After a lengthy struggle the fish was finally near the boat. The Marlin then jumped out of the water and into the boat where it flopped wildly. The fish hit the guide in the chest, where the lure caught the guide and deeply embedded. The guide grabbed for the lure which also then became embedded in his hand. The fish continued to flop wildly and managed to jump out of the boat and back into the water, pulling the guide along the way. The fish then dove, and about 20 feet under the water the fish reached the end of the line slack and jerked itself off the line. The guide then surfaced with his hand and chest still stuck to the lure and the fishing line.
